What is Somatic Psychotherapy?

Somatic therapy is a form of body-centered therapy that looks at the connection of mind and body and often combines talk therapy with mindfulness, movement, and expressive arts. It’s an integrative and creative approach to therapy that can be deeply nourishing because it can help us learn to respond to ourselves and others with curiosity and compassion, build body and sociocultural awareness, and develop new skills for growth and change. Somatic practices can help a wide range of mental health issues, including trauma, addiction, grief, depression, stress, and anxiety.

Somatics is a broad term and there are a variety of interventions used in a clinical therapy setting. My framework is integrative, as I draw from cognitive behavioral techniques, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, neuroscience, and somatic narrative in my practice.
